Hagerty Statement on the Confirmation of Lloyd Austin to Serve as Secretary of Defense

January 22, 2021

WASHINGTON – United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) today released the following statement after voting to confirm Lloyd Austin to serve as Secretary of Defense:

“Lloyd Austin is qualified and has strong bi-partisan support to serve as Secretary of Defense, and ensure our brave servicemen and servicewomen are always prepared to defend America’s interests. We are currently faced with numerous global security challenges, particularly in the Indo-Pacific and Middle East, so it’s my hope that Austin will bring a realistic and seasoned approach at a time when we need a clear-eyed perspective about those who threaten America most.”
