Hagerty Opposes Becerra for HHS Secretary

March 18, 2021

WASHINGTON—United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) today voted against confirmation of California Attorney General Xavier Becerra to be Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).

“In the midst of a global pandemic, it is a grave error that President Biden has chosen to nominate a partisan with zero healthcare experience, which I cannot support,” Senator Hagerty said. “In the midst of a public health crisis, HHS does not need a leader who has prioritized progressive policies, including government-run health care, partial-birth abortion, and decriminalizing illegal immigration. Tennesseans expect to have an HHS Secretary who is prepared on day one to put this pandemic behind us—that person is not Becerra.”
