Hagerty Opposes Cardona for Education Secretary

March 1, 2021

WASHINGTON—United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) today opposed confirmation of Miguel Cardona to be Secretary of Education.

“Mr. Cardona refused to commit during his confirmation hearings to getting all students back to in-person learning, and the White House has yet to lay out a clear plan,” Senator Hagerty said. “As our children fall further behind, we need an Education Secretary who is on the side of students and parents, not teachers’ unions. Mr. Cardona supports progressive policies that will further federalize our education system when local control should be the priority.”
