October 4, 2021

NASHVILLE, TN—United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, today extended his congratulations to the new Prime Minister of Japan, Kishida Fumio.

“It’s an honor to extend my warmest regards and best wishes to newly elected Prime Minister of Japan Kishida,” Senator Hagerty said. “As the former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, I was fortunate to know Prime Minister Kishida who served as foreign minister and as a sitting member of the parliament. I know Prime Minister Kishida to be a man of principle and someone who, like his recent predecessors, is a friend of the United States and understands deeply that the U.S.-Japan Alliance is a cornerstone of peace, security, and prosperity not only in the Indo-Pacific region, but also for the world. As a member of the Senate, I look forward to working with Prime Minister Kishida to further strengthen the U.S.-Japan Alliance and to meet the challenges that our Nations face in the 21st century.”
