WASHINGTON – United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) has submitted more than twenty amendments to the budget resolution currently being debated on the Senate floor. These amendments, which are the first he has filed as a senator, cover a broad range of topics, including foreign policy, rural development, immigration, and other important issues facing Tennessee.
“These amendments are common-sense proposals that are overwhelmingly supported by the people of Tennessee and should receive bipartisan support from Democrats and Republicans,” said Senator Hagerty.
Hagerty has filed amendments that:
- Support first responders, businesses, and families impacted by the Nashville Christmas Day bombing;
- Support and follow the science that supports reopening public schools immediately;
- Support the United States Department of Agriculture’s investments in broadband for rural communities;
- End the inappropriate classification of China by international organizations that gives China an advantage over America and enhance accountability at those organizations;
- Ensure that the United States leads other nations in holding China accountable for engaging in genocide and crimes against humanity with respect to Uyghurs in the Xinjiang Province of China;
- Ensure that the United States continues to pursue the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of North Korea;
- Ensure that the United States sustains and expands the Abraham Accords;
- Ensure that the United States keeps its embassy in Jerusalem;
- Counter the Islamic Republic of Iran’s destabilizing actions in the Middle East;
- Enforce non-nuclear-related pressure against the Islamic Republic of Iran;
- Withdraw from international organizations that fail to meet their core mission and are not aligned with American interests;
- Preserve the southern border wall that protects Americans from drug and human trafficking and smuggling, given that walls often serve as effective security measures, as evidenced by their use outside the U.S. Capitol currently;
- Support Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in combatting drug and human trafficking and smuggling;
- Provide for immigration policies designed to support and benefit American citizens, not displace American workers;
- Provide for the deportation of illegal immigrants with gun crime convictions;
- Provide for increasing support for and not defunding law enforcement;
- Stop federal funding to colleges and universities that limit free speech;
- Support the position of the United States dollar as the world’s leading currency;
- Ensure federal workers do not receive job protections that are unavailable to every other American worker and provide that key federal policy makers may be terminated for poor performance in serving the public;
- Withhold federal election grant dollars from states that conduct unconstitutional presidential elections that are inconsistent with their state election laws;
- Ensure that the Senate continues to serve as the world’s greatest deliberative body by protecting the filibuster;
- Support public and private institutions, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities; and
- Remove blanket liability protection for online platforms that engage in political censorship.
